The Host Coordinating the Great Debate
The remaining candidates in The Challenge were divided into two different sets of four with Michael, Elorm, Afumaa and Anastacia were in Group 1 whereas Sandra, Dorinda, Araba and Joseph were in Group 2 to participate in “The Great Debate”. The essence of this task was to test the knowledge base of the candidates on issues and also their analytical skills. They were given two different topics to debate on after which they were scored by both the judges and the audience.

The ground rule was for the groups to DEBATE on the topics that were given to them. The first round saw the groups debating on the topic “Should fathers be given paternity leave?” In this session, Group 2 was for the motion whereas Group 1 was against the motion. The judges had their taste of the debates as they scored on different criteria ranging from substance to clarity of thoughts.

After the first session had ended and the groups allowed to prepare for the next topic – “The power of the fourth estate is a myth” with Group1 going for the motion and Group 2 against the motion. The audience that came from far and near comprised the general public and also family members of the candidates to the British Council Auditorium. They were given the opportunity to express their opinions by texting the Group they thought were the better of the two in the debates.

The Host for the Show, Kojo Oppon Nkrumah was there to probe the candidates where necessary and to coordinate the debate to an admirable end. The judges for the event were: Dr. Pascal Brenya, C.E.O of Focus Central Ghana, Mr. Albert Eliason, Busniess Director of the British Counil and Dr. Kwesi Appiah, Executive Director of the Ghana Civic Foundation. The challenge is going to run for the next few weeks on GTV with a repeat broadcast at 11:00 am on Fridays. As the Finals of the Season 2 draws closer, you are encouraged to keep texting your favourite candidate to Tigo Short Code 1750 and the same on all other Networks.
