Joseph - Winner of The Challenge Season 2
Moving to the challenge house with the other 11 contestants presented mixed feelings. There was the FUN aspect where you relate to a whole new breed of intelligent guys, the other aspect was that of anxiety where you pitch your strength against these same guys whenever there was a task to perform. If I were asked to recount one trait that run through all the tasks over the 14-week period, I would say the ability to use your individual brilliance to influence a team’s success. In as much as one will possess unique individual abilities, there was always the need to gel in a team so that your abilities will contribute to the team’s success. This I believe was the bedrock of my emergence as the ultimate winner. As a matter of fact, my success is directly pivoted to the other contestants, who were at one point working with me as a team or at another point competing with me for the same laurels. They were really a force to reckon with and I must say that, they gave me a run for my money.
My greatest “challenge” however was the fact that, my cool and relaxed friendly look which always showed up as a smile on my face was misinterpreted for UNSERIOUSNESS and MOCKERY of my fellow contestants. That nearly sent me home during one of the evictions but I was saved by votes. It was a scary moment but I believe God had some plans for me. That experience taught me how to handle the team tasks without coming across as laid back, unserious and relaxed. I believe it was such a good time to have learnt that lesson because that helped me in the subsequent tasks.
Here I am now as a beneficiary of a full scholarship worth £40,000. I thank my God for such a miracle and commend British Council for birthing such great vision. I doff off my hat to University of Westminster, TIGO and UBA for supporting the vision. Charterhouse and all the other partners are not forgotten including all friends and fans. I say thank you and well done. The list can go on and on but it won’t be complete if I don’t mention my family and my fiancée for their support in prayer and encouragement. A big HUG for you Yaa Afriyie, we finally made it. God richly bless you.
In conclusion, I owe all who have shown particular interest and contributed to my success an excellent performance during and after my postgraduate study. This I personally promise to take up as a “challenge” and make them proud. I shall not disappoint you. I will also encourage the up and coming graduates to take up such challenges because it may go a long way of charting their career paths. Long live “THE CHALLENGE”… Long live “GHANA”………
